TAS: War hero to be farewelled tomorrow
HOBART, Aug 29 AAP - Australia's last decorated WW I veteran will be farewelled tomorrowin a state funeral in north-west Tasmania.
Frank MacDonald died last weekend, just months after celebrating his 107th birthday.
His extraordinary life will be celebrated with a service at Ulverstone Civic Centreat 11.30am (AEST) followed by a military parade to the town's War Memorial and a 21 gunsalute.
Mr MacDonald was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous gallantry and devotionto duty in action in Belgium in 1917 and also served during WW II in army administrationin Sydney.
Just six known Australian First World War veterans are still alive.
